Paintings

A selection of my paintings can be seen here. Many can be printed (✅)

The white car 🔴✅

I stumbled upon this situation in Sandgate while on my bike. A white car, full of colour. The green house used to be the residence of HG Wells. I painted this in a graphic/retro Polaroid style due to the nature of everything around it.

Winter afternoon

A winter scene from early 2024 taken near Maldon in Essex. I think they had just one day of snow this year! You can feel the crisp cold, the afternoon sun and the daylight moon in this atmospheric picture.

English rose

Inspired by a royalty free image, where the white dress and flowers work so well together.

Heaven

“Heaven 2024”. This represents my take on heaven, as it might be in 2024. The original work installed in Tontine Street was created in 2008 -called “Heaven is a place where nothing ever happens”. I always tended to misread this as “Palace”. Heaven sounds nicer as a palace, even if nothing happens there, and it gives us hope in our current uncertain times. Even though 2024 also marks the moment where the UK has truly entered the “Atheist age” according to studies by Kent University. The first Android smartphone was released after this 2008 art installation. 16 years later, using our smartphones is coming under fire through the freedom of speech. Would we have the ability to express this freedom in heaven using our smart phones, or would God (He – another modern contention, even though the bible itself calls God the “Father”) prevent us from using them in the palace? It now appears that our freedom is being watched in the UK in 2024…We can now end up in a different type of palace, where smartphones are also banned, while still on earth – His Majesty’s Prison! The exact same set of letters taken from the original installation are used in my rendition. I hope you enjoy the narrative that goes with this work.

Janina

The reference photograph for this work was provided to me by a professional German photographer. Taking my art to the next dimension, this portrait includes a photographic technique of using an out of focus background, plus a very challenging sequinned top.

Every day it’s an adventure! 🔴✅

This was based on a friend’s selfie photo which I immediately recognised as a painting. It conveys a hot, jungle adventure in an amazing way.

Dover 🔴✅

This was a commission, and it surprised me at how nice Dover looks from the new pier! The September day had the perfect weather, when you can see the reflection of the white cliffs of Dover in the sea. This is very rare.

Heath Fritillary

This very rare butterfly lives near Canterbury and is much smaller than you think. This beautiful photo was taken by a friend and just had to be painted!

In Thoughts Of You

Knitting is easier in real life! I know, because I’ve done it! This was based on a royalty free image, and conveys any thought or daydream.

The Seven Sisters

Britain’s favourite view according to polls. It’s the one place I’ve been to where you don’t need to be a good photographer. Just point and shoot for an amazing image.

Brecon canal

Wales has canals, and they are beautiful. The tow path leads out towards views of the Brecon beacons.

Hythe Bay

Hythe Bay from within the firing range. A lovely place for a walk when allowed.

Prospect Cottage 🔴✅

Derek Jarman’s “Prospect Cottage” in Dungeness. Painted before the garden went a little bit into disrepair. This iconic scene sold on its first exhibition, but prints are cards are still available.

Chocolate muffin (cropped)

A loose sketch of a cake my son photographed in a German tea shop, then promptly ate. I still have the cake!

Windy day

I loved painting this because you can feel the wind.

Frances B

Frances B off Hythe beach after a fishing trip.

Another Time 🔴✅

Under the pier at Folkestone. Antony Gormley’s “Another Time XVIII” . To show that time hasn’t stood still, the seagulls around the fishing boat are captured by the small sliver of time provided by my camera.
