I am able to take on some commissions. They can be difficult, so it needs good planning. I want to spend a little time here to explain my process.
When you find a work of art in a gallery, the chances are that it will be the wrong size for your space, the wrong colour or worse of all, the wrong price!
I have a unique way of helping you to realise a custom work of art. This can be a very difficult decision for you, and may have artistic challenges that we won’t yet know about until we investigate it.
Many artists have very fixed views about their work. You have to fit in with them. I put you first. We will discuss your needs first, and then I will mock up the finished painting before I even think about starting. This will enable you to visualise what it will look like in your own home. And give you time to decide if it’s right for you.
This is a setting abroad. I’ve never been there. The portrait on the right doesn’t exist, but we can see what it will look like, including the size and the frame.
One customer had their mind set on a picture, but it was simply the wrong size for the room. I gave them different mock-ups to show them what it would be like in different ways. I even got them to cut out a piece of card and attach it to the wall. This was during Covid when I couldn’t visit. The first time they saw the finished picture, I took it to their house and hung it for them. They stayed in their kitchen until the final reveal. Because we had planned everything down to the screw in the wall, it was a ten second job to hang it. They loved that.
I also made the frame, and painted it to match their decor. These details make all the difference.
I want you to be 101% happy. There is no point otherwise.
Another example of a mock-up.
Unlike many artists, I can create things that are way outside of their thoughts. This is a copy of the famous painting by Edvard Munch – “The Scream”.
But I have changed it to represent a different location. The railings, boat, and power station are not original features and are unique to Gillingham! The paint is standard decorators paint! And the surface is MDF. It hangs over a hot radiator. These things are important considerations that most artists will miss. I also paint pictures suitable for bathroom environments.
Anything is possible!
